Over 50 Years of Educational Excellence

New Orleans Primary School opened its doors on 6 May 1974, beginning as a small community school with just 3 teachers and later expanding to become a cornerstone of education in Paarl. What started as a modest institution has grown into a thriving educational community.

Our school motto "Opvoeding en Opheffing" (Education and Upliftment) reflects our commitment to not just academic excellence, but the holistic development of every learner who walks through our doors.

Historical Timeline

1974

Foundation

New Orleans Primary School opened on 6 May 1974 in Stinkhout Avenue, New Orleans, Paarl. Started with just 3 teachers and a small group of eager learners.

1976

Early Growth

By 1976, the school had grown significantly with an alarming rate of growth. Additional teachers were arranged and school fees were set at R1 per pupil to support development.

1981

Expansion Era

In 1981, the school experienced rapid expansion with enrollment reaching new heights. Multiple shifts of schooling were arranged to accommodate all learners.

1983

Facility Development

By 1983, New Orleans had grown to 1269 pupils, necessitating significant infrastructure development. The school added new pre-fabricated buildings to accommodate the growing student body.

1984

Leadership Transition

In 1984, Mr. A. Ontong was appointed principal, bringing new leadership and vision to guide the school through its continued growth and development.

1987

Permanent Campus

In 1987, the new school building was completed, providing a permanent home for New Orleans Primary with modern facilities and proper infrastructure.

1994

Modern Era

The rationalisation of Education in 1994 brought new challenges and opportunities. The school adapted to changing educational landscapes while maintaining its commitment to quality education.

1998

Continued Leadership

In 1998, Mr. Samaai was appointed Circuit Manager, and Adonis was appointed as the new principal, continuing the tradition of strong educational leadership.

2018

New Principal Appointment

In March 2018, Mr. G. Cook was appointed as the new principal of New Orleans Primary School, bringing fresh leadership and innovative educational approaches to guide the school into the modern era.

2022

Leadership Transition

In December 2022, Mr. G. Cook retired after serving the school with dedication for over 40 years. Mr. R. Williams was appointed as acting principal, ensuring continuity in the school's educational excellence and leadership.

2024

Complete School Rebuild

New Orleans Primary School was completely rebuilt from the ground up, creating a brand new, modern educational facility. This transformative project marks the beginning of a new era with cutting-edge infrastructure and learning environments.

New Orleans has produced many Boland sport team members across various disciplines

Paarl Wellington Regional Choir

7 children participated in this prestigious choir, with our music teacher serving as Secretary of the Regional Choir for many years

Gymnastics National Junior Olympic Championship 2000

Hashiem Karriem - gold medal at Cape Province Gymnastics Championships 2000 and gold medal at Oudtshoorn during September 2000
